On September 2, the Eastern Economic Forum will open for the sixth time in the far east of Russia. Da Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok is one of the main international platforms for economic, political and cultural cooperation between Russia and states from the Asia-Pacific region. Established in 2015, the forum is attended by high - profile delegations from Russia and its Asian neighbours: heads of state and government as well as top managers of major companies. The forum will be held on the campus of the Far Eastern Federal University in Vladivostok.
The last few times, prominent leaders such as Russian President Vladimir Putin, President of the People’s Republic of China Xi Jinping, former President of Mongolia Chaltmaagiin Battulga, Japan’s then Prime Minister Shinzō Abe, South Korea’s then Prime Minister Lee Nak-yon and other political celebrities from the Far East have participated in the forum.
Interesting also for Europe
However, the event in the port city of Vladivostok is interesting not only for Far Eastern Asian states and business circles. The work of the forum is also regularly attended by Europeans – although not at the level of top politicians and managers. Nevertheless, the European economy is represented quite strongly, this year, for example, by the German-Russian Chamber of Commerce Abroad and the French-Russian Chamber of Industry and Commerce (CCI). The president of the CCI Emmanuel Quidet is already taking 15 participants from the French economy this year, instead of just two or three company representatives as in previous years.
The rapid growth of the Eastern Economic Forum EDF, which will open on 2 September and run until 4 September, is striking. The statistics are impressive: if in 2017 and 2018 the forum still registered almost 6000 participants (not counting journalists), in 2019 their number was already 8500. Accordingly, the number of concluded contracts and the sums stipulated in the contract also increased. in 2017, 217 contracts worth 2.5 trillion rubles were concluded, in 2018 already 220 contracts worth 3.1 trillion rubles, and in 2019 about 270 contracts worth 3.4 trillion rubles (1 trillion rubles is currently about 13.5 million US dollars). However, only those contract sums which are not subject to commercial secrecy (which is likely to be a significantly larger number for political reasons) are included in the statistics.
Contacts in all forms
The forum was cancelled last year for worldwide epidemiological reasons, but this year it is taking place in a mixed form – on – site as well as online. The three-day event consists of conferences, round tables, television debates, business breakfast talks, business dialogues and other forms of contact and information.
The topics of the international events within the framework of the" Eastern Economic Forum “EEF revolve around” the values of the great Eurasian partnership", the business dialogues are focused on Russia-Europe, Russia-India, Russia-Korea, Russia-Japan, etc. The" Business Programme “and the” Cultural Programme " are both of high international interest.
The Covid vaccinations will also be discussed at the edge of the forum. Russia, as is known, has created several of its own vaccines against Covid. The most famous of these, Sputnik V, is not recognized in Western countries for political and ideological reasons.
The forthcoming EDF Economic Forum is a good opportunity to focus on cooperation and overcome confrontations.
